our

PROJECT

For our Silver Award project, we wanted to focus on vaping, for we felt it was a significant problem in our community. The goal of our project was to educate people about the dangers of vaping, prevent people from vaping, and try to convince those who are vaping to quit. The main components of the project are this website, a PSA, an online pamphlet, and a survey. You can find all of these below.

The Process

To achieve our goal, we met with the health teachers from different schools in Hopkinton, Mr. Hanna, the assistant principal at Hopkinton High School, Shaun McAuliffe, the Director of the Board of Health, Hopkinton Youth and Family Services, the resource officers at Hopkinton Middle School, and a local pediatrician. After gathering information from these people, we decided to make informational pamphlets, and hold an event called 'Hidden in Plain Sight'. We also wanted to work with a group in Hopkinton called Hopkinton Organizing for Prevention, or HOP. Once we met with HOP, they agreed to partner with us to help finalize the pamphlets as well as our events. Unfortunately COVID-19 caused the Hidden in Plain Sight events to be cancelled, so we needed to take an alternative route. The obvious answer was online, so we created an online Hidden in Plain Sight in the from of a survey, a psa, an online version of our pamphlet, and this website. Linked below for you is our survey, PSA, and pamphlet.
